Number Knowledge 5 – Fractions and decimals (page 67)
This displays a sheet with some diagrams that are shaded. Students are asked to write as a decimal the amount that is shaded.
Number Knowledge 7 – Rounding money & decimals (p.76)
This displays a sheet with question for students to answer about rounding decimals and money sensibly. Encourage discussion giving students the opportunity to justify their decision to round up or down and by how much.
Number Knowledge 8 – Ordering decimals (page 79)
This displays the instructions to a game that is played as two teams.
Yes/No game
Choose a number of students or pair them up or group them and have one student choose a decimal number with five digits.
The other members of the group must try to guess the number by asking questions that have a yes or no answer.
Example: “Has the number got two digits after the decimal point?”
The winner is the person who guesses the number and this person then chooses a 5-digit number and the game is played again.
Number Knowledge 9 – Multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000
(page 81)
This gives a chart with a summary of how the digits move when multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000.
