Teacher Resource Sheets

Enlargement

This displays the Getting started on page 297.

You could ask students to investigate how each of these works.

This displays step by step how to draw an enlargement of scale factor 2.

This displays two empty grids that you can use with a smart board or pdf writer, or you could project them onto a surface you can write on.

Ask a student to draw a simple shape or picture onto grid 1. A second student must draw the same shape, only two times larger, on the other grid.

This serves to illustrate that if the scale factor for an enlargement is 2, every line is two times longer than on the original shape.

You could repeat this for a scale factor of 3.

If you don’t want to use the displayable grid you could ask students to pair up to do this exercise.

Transformations

This displays some reflections of clocks. Students are asked what the time is.

This displays some island patterns.

Students are asked to discuss whether they were made by translating, reflecting, rotating or enlarging shapes.
