Overview

Rich tasks

  • These are problem solving open-ended questions that require students to investigate shape. The tasks can be given at the start of a topic and done as the students gain enough knowledge to complete them, inserted into a topic at an appropriate place, or given as homework or extension.

2-D shapes

  • Describe plane shapes using number of sides, parallel or non parallel sides, angles etc.
  • Know the common properties of triangles, circles and quadrilaterals (rectangles, squares, trapezia, parallelograms, rhombuses).
  • Sort shapes into groups with common properties or names.
  • Draw circles.

3-D shapes

  • Describe 3-D shapes using the number of faces, edges and vertices.
  • Build simple 3-D shapes using materials.
