Rich tasks

  • These are problem solving open-ended questions that require students to investigate measures and measuring using scales. The tasks can be given at the start of a topic and done as the students gain enough knowledge to complete them, inserted into a topic at an appropriate place, or given as homework or extension.

  • Choose appropriate units and devices for measuring.

  • Estimate length, weight and capacity, and carry out a variety of measuring tasks.

Angles

  • Know that angle is a measure of turn and is measured in degrees.
  • Know the degrees in a quarter, half and full turn.
  • Be able to recognise acute and obtuse angles.
