• Analogue clocks display a large amount of complex and abstract information in a small space. They are also becoming less common than digital clocks which appear on a wide range of commonly used devices. It is no wonder that many students struggle with learning to tell time.
• It is a good idea to have an analogue wall clock in the classroom and to encourage students to use it as part of daily routines, for example, when to transition from one activity to another, or the length of time taken to clean up.
• The classroom clock can also be turned into a permanent classroom display so that students can refer to it whenever they need to read the clock. Some teachers have done this by recording a 5 count around the circumference of the clock, using arrows to mark the ½ and ¼ hours, or marking half the clock with a vertical line to indicate whether to read ‘past’ or ‘to’ the hour.
