This task asks students to discover the smallest amount of wrapping paper that would be needed to wrap a box. The task can be given at the start of a topic or done as the students gain enough understanding to complete it.

Perimeter page 214
- Know that perimeter is the distance around the outside of a shape.
- Use the symmetry of a shape, for example, a rectangle, to work out the lengths of unmarked sides.
Area page 216
- Find the area of a space by counting or calculating the number of units.
Volume page 220
- Find the volume of a container by calculating the number of cubic units it contains.
