• You may need to revise rounding before starting this chapter. See pages 43 and 76 in the student book.
• Some students have difficulty with estimating because they don’t know what to round the numbers to. Remind them that the purpose of making an estimate is to be able to quickly check if the answer is about right. The numbers therefore need to be rounded enough so that the estimate can be carried out mentally.
• Remind students that an estimate should be made whenever a calculator is used, because it is easy to key in a wrong digit.
• For Activity 1 question 4, you could let students use Google maps to look at each stop in a sort of virtual tour. They could collect photos for an album to show in a presentation giving the time taken to get to each site once they have planned the route.
