Teacher Resource Sheets

Solving time problems (page 198)

Units of time (Teacher Resource Sheet 88)

(You could use this to revise the conversion between units of time prior to Activity 1 on page 198.)

This displays a page of time equivalences with some missing numbers.

You can use this activity with a smart board, or any interactive device such as a computer, laptop or tablet.

Are we there yet? (Teacher Resource Sheet 89)

(You could use this in conjunction with the teaching of Solving time problems on page 198.)

This displays some cars and a child saying “Are we there yet?” with the time given on the car clock using analogue, digital, 12 and 24 hour time and the estimated time of arrival.

Students are asked how long there is left in the journey.

Timetables (page 203)

The time of our lives (Getting started 11)

(You could use this sheet at any time during the timetables section on page 203 onwards, perhaps as a group activity or homework.)

This displays the Getting startedon page 195.

You could use this to demonstrate the importance of being able to use a timetable or as an introduction to Match me (see below).

Match me

(You could use this sheet to show that many timetables are on line and illustrate how they work at any point in the Timetablessection, page 203.)

This displays the Auckland Transport site.

https://at.govt.nz/bus-train-ferry/

The sort of questions you could ask about this site are:

What is the first bus/train/ferry that (a student who you choose) could catch to get to (where she/he wants to go) afterschool today?

Travel time

(You could use this as an introduction to the Road trip game on page 207.)

This activity uses the InterCity bus site.

Ask students to plan a journey between two cities.

They could use the route map at this .

https://www.intercity.co.nz/travel-info/route-map/

And then the timetable to organize their travel.
