Rich tasks

• These are problem solving open-ended questions that require students to be able to carry out a full statistical investigation following the Inquiry Cycle. The tasks can be given at the start of a topic and done as the students gain enough knowledge to complete them, inserted into a topic at an appropriate place or given as homework or extension.

3. Love it or hate it
4. Texting competition

Designing a data collection sheet

• Design a collection sheet that is appropriate for the data to be collected.

Grouped data

• Group discrete numerical data using a frequency table and equal class intervals.

• Understand that qualitative data and opinions can be collected and /or displayed using a variety of scales and graphs, including the Likert scale.

The Enquiry Cycle

• Understand and be able to carry out each step of the Enquiry Cycle.
• Understand that at any point in the Enquiry Cycle, you may need or want to go backwards or forwards to another step of the Enquiry Cycle.
